Influence of filtration materials on pipe drainage efficiency

The influence of filtration materials, such as gravel, geotextile and straw, on the efficiency of drainage heavy clay loams at the groundwater level has been investigated on 2 objects in the Jelenia Gora and Walbrzych district. It was found that gravel was best for improving water inflow to drains, geotextile and straw being less suitable for that function. In drainage divides with the pipes covered with gravel that groundwater levels were 10-30 cm lower on average than those with pipes covered with geotextile and straw. That was evident especially in the beginning of spring
