Influence of seeding and nitrogen rates on yields of two triticale cultivars

The purpose of three-year studies carried out in 1987-90 in Pawlowice near Wroclaw was to determine the effects of seeding (250, 400 and 550 seeds per square m) and N (45 and 90 kg/ha) rates on growth and yields of Dagro and Grado winter triticale. The yields of Grado cultivar were 9 percent higher than those of Dagro, Split application of N fertilizers (45+45 kg/ha) proved to be better than a single N rate of 45 kg/ha. An optimal seeding rate for the 2 cultivars was 400 seeds/square m. Protein content per seed depended on the moisture content and temperature of the soil and amounted to 13.2 percent in 1988 and 16.7 percent in 1990
