Agriculture and mechanization of North Africa: the market of farm machinery with Italy
1997
Clemente, M. (Universita degli studi di Bologna (Italy). Facolta di Scienze Politiche)
The sector of farm mechanisation is considered to be of strategical importance for the development of agricultural and food economy in southern Mediterranean countries. The existing exchange between North Africa and Italy, in particular Reggio Emilia province, plays a major role not only in terms of turnover, but in the economic and commercial integration processes between the two areas. At the local level, a production activity of small farm machinery has already started and is protected by local governments through custom duties. As the technological level becomes more sophisticated, the protectionist forms of North Africa countries reduce and the market becomes more dynamic. Of special importance is the quality of local management by Italian companies. Finally, an important element is the socio-economic stability that strongly influences any commercial dynamics between the two areas.
