The position of the cultivated agricultural region in the Alps

Reproduction is very important for the preservation of the cultivated agricultural region - "reproduction" meaning the constant restoration of the characteristic landscape connected with agricultural utilisation and care. The deterioration of economic conditions for agriculture in the Alps in the second half of the 20th century threatens reproductive activity and decreases the effectiveness of productive work. The solution may be supplementary farm income from tourism. The cultivated agricultural region is the basis for further development of the Alps as it has many positive qualities. It is marked by ecological stability and constant productivity. The evidence of farmers' long-term activity is an agricultural region of varied natural beauties and identity.
