The carcass value levels of pure breeds and selected paternal lines with respect to the sex of barrows and gilts were evaluated in a pig progeny testing station. The achieved results have indicated the variability between the studied parameters of the maternal and paternal populations, owing to their different growth ability. In nearly all examined carcass value parameters, statistically highly significant differences were found between sexes to the advantage of gilts. The only exception represented the nearly identical measured carcass length. The difference in the weight of valuable lean cuts amounted to 0.6 kg which, in the ratio of the carcass half, represented 2.13 %. The most relevant differences between sexes were recorded in meat breeds and paternal lines created on their basis
