Effects of cage area on the results of fattening female broilers
1997
Chmelnicna, L.
An experiment determined the basic production parameters and classification of female broilers fattened in four-stage cage batteries, type Delta technology, with different cage areas per chicken (292, 308, 326, and 347 square cm), related to the stage number (1-2-3-4), during the fattening period of 18 to 42 days. Live weight of chickens was significantly increasing up to the cage area of 326 square cm per chicken. The mean absolute weight gain within the evaluated period improved by about 10% with the 326 square cm cage area, whilst the producer of cage technology recommends an area of 308 square cm. Mortality of chicks slightly decreased from 2.04 to 1.51% dead chickens of the initial total as the cage area increased to 326 square cm. The classification of chickens into grade A increased from 87.9% to 95.8% depending on increasing cage area per chicken
