Over two years the variability of 118 of the most important genotypes of the winter wheat collection of Czech, Moravian and Slovak origin were evaluated for selected morphological and physiological traits; traits determining the productivity and quality as well as winter hardiness and disease resistance were studied. The lowest range of genetic variability (V less than 10 percent) was determined in stem thickness at the base of the last internode, in number of spikelets per spike, in spike length, in stem thickness below the spike, in crude protein content and thousand grain weight. Relatively high variability was found in the sedimentation test, grain weight per spike, plant length and upper internode length. The genotypes with the highest values of studied traits with a possible utilization in plant breeding were determined
