The GCA of 9 domestic and foreign Virginia tobacco genotypes was evaluated on the basis of hybrid combinations analysis by the factorial system method of pair crossing (6 times 3). The analysis of variance confirmed the statistically significant influence of maternal and paternal genotypes GCA on yield and yield-forming characteristics (leaf length and width, number of leaves per plant, height of plants) which indicates the expressive share of the additive effect of genes. The component of SCA was lower but statistically significant for leaf length and width and plant height. A high difference in the effects of GCA of parental varieties for the observed signs was obtained, which was influenced by yearly meteorological factors. Based on the statistical significance of GCA effects the following genotypes had very good and good combining ability for majority characteristics: Cospaia C6, V79 B, LK 245, and VP 75/2. The variety Cospaia C6 with very good GCA was used in the further hybridization programme
