The influence of 27 generative rootstocks and that of 1 vegetative rootstock on frost injuries to buds and shoots of peach cultivars Gracia and Redhaven was investigated under field conditions. The rootstocks used were peaches (10), peach-almond hybrids (4), almonds (6), myrobalan plums (7), and plum (1). Temperatures as low as - 21 degrees Celsius occurred at the end of January 1993 following a long warm period. The rootstocks, cultivars and their interactions within the investigated collection significantly influenced the level of frost injuries of generative as well as vegetative buds. Frost damages to shoots were influenced significantly only by cultivars. With Gracia 99.92 percent of generative and 78.25 percent of vegetative buds died of frost injury. The lowest injury levels were recorded on some myrobalan plum and Persica davidiana rootstocks. The mean frost injury level of shoots was 6.17 points. With Redhaven 99.18 percent of generative buds were killed by frost, the lowest portion on myrobalan plum rootstock MY-KL-A
