Analysis of forage yield in a collection of white clover (Trifolium repens L.) varieties
1994
Zapletalova, I. (Vyzkumny Ustav Picninarsky, Brno (Czech Republic))
To evaluate herbage and hay yields and their relationships to selected characteristics in 41 varieties and newly-bred varieties of white clover, the following methods were used: interval estimator of median value, two-fold classification of variance analysis, and correlation analysis. In spite of differences in performance in three experimental locations in Slovakia under diverse agroecological conditions, domestic newly-bred varieties (besides some foreign varieties of the form hollandicum, giganteum and silvestre) were rated highly. Of 7 traits studied (overwintering, condition in spring, height before cutting, new growth after cutting, leaf area, petiole length and thickness) the closest relationship was found between the first crop and stand condition in spring and between subsequent crops and stand height
