Epigaeic Heteroptera as indicators of moisture relationships of the floodplain forests of the Danube and Morava rivers [Slovakia]
1997
Stepanovicova, O. (Comenius Univ., Bratislava (Slovak Republic). Dept. of Zoology)
Research in 1991-1994 into epigaeic taxocoenoses in the floodplain forests of the Danube and Morava rivers evaluated the importance of two eudominant species, Drymus brunneus and Legnotus limbosus, for estimating moisture relations of the floodplain forests. It was found that D. brunneus indicates moister habitats of the floodplain forests Salici-Populetum. Its population density was minimal in the drier variant of this forest and in Fraxino-Ulmetum mezohygrophilous-mezophilous forests. Its equivalent at these sites is the species L. limbosus which indicates floodplain forest communities with drier character as a consequence of greatest depth of the underground water table and absence of surface inundation
