Sedliak, V. (Grassland and Mountain Agriculture Research Inst., Banska Bystrica (Slovak Republic))
A trial was conducted on semi-natural and temporary grasslands at an inner-Carpathian hollow of medium altitude, at Sliac (Slovakia). The objective was to study grazing effects on Slovakian Spotted dairy cows. Insufficient energy value of herbage was supplemented with a carbohydrate concentrate (dry sugar-beet pulps). Three groups of dairy cows were compared, two groups with the feed supplement of 3.0 and 1.5 kg per cow respectively, and one group without the supplement. In all groups, mean production of milk was 14.0 kg, which gave priority to the group without additional feeding. Good technological quality of milk was recorded in all the animal groups. After the trial, metabolic profile tests indicated good metabolic equilibrium of all the dairy cows
