The method of calculation of evapotranspiration and of its structure is presented for different agricultural canopies (rye, winter wheat, spring barley and grass). Field measurements were performed during the Northern Hemisphere Climate Processes Land-Surface Experiment (NOPEX) during the First Concentrated Field Effort (CFE1) at Lovsta agricultural site near Uppsala (Sweden) in May - June 1994. Presented model EVASU first calculates potential evapotranspiration by modified Penman - Monteith equation. Potential evapotranspiration is then reduced to actual evapotranspiration using experimentally verified relation between relative evapotranspiration and soil water content. Evapotranspiration of the above-mentioned canopies was also estimated independently as the last term of the energy balance equation. Comparison of evapotranspiration values estimated by both the above-mentioned methods gives close results, with correlation coefficient r=0.923 significant on the level p=0.01. Time courses of evapotranspiration and of its structure are presented for the canopies at the Lovsta site. Results show important differences of evapotranspiration between species during the time under study
