Effect of mung bean protein concentrate in growing - finishing pig diets (20-90 kilograms)
1994

Effects of mung bean protein concentrate on nutrient digesti - bilities and performances of growing and finishing pigs were studied and divided into 2 experiments. Experiment 1. Ten (10) uncastrated male Large White pigs at 30 and 60 kg body weight were devided into 2 groups of 5 animals each and were randomly fed experimental diet as following. Diet 1: A protein free diet; Diet 2:A diet containing mung bean protein concentrate (10 % protein). The animals were kept individually in metabolic cages where digestibilities of protein and energy, and the N - balance of mung bean protein concentrate were determined. In growing (30 kg) and finishing (60 kg) pigs, digestibility of dry matter were 94.72 and 95.92 %, digestibility of protein were 95.07 and 95.24 %, biological value of protein were 61.37 and 58.02 %, net protein utilization were 58.40 and 55.32 %, digestible energy were 4152.42 and 4166.73 Kcal/kg, and metabolizable energy were 3344.15 and 3355.68 Kcal/kg, respectively. Experiment 2. Thirty two (32) Large White pigs weighed 20 kg were devided into 4 groups of 8 animals each and containing an equal number of castrated males and females. Each group of pigs was randomly fed one of the experimental diets until 90 kg body weight as follows. Diet 1: A control diet containing of corn - soybean meal and fishmeal; Diet 2, 3 and 4: Diets which 50, 75 and 100 percents of soybean in the control diet were substituted by mung bean protein concentrate, respectively. In growing - finishing periods, production performance, carcass characteristics and feed cost per kilogram weight gain of pigs on every experimental diets were not statistically different but increasing the level of mung bean protein concentrate in the diets had tended to decrease feed cost per kilogram weight gain of pigs.
