Postemergence application of diphenyl ether herbicides for broadleaf weed control in vegetable soybean

Application of diphenyl ethers at 1 week after soybean emergence caused highest phytotoxicity on soybean, while the applications at 2 and 3 weeks after emergence the injury was decreased respectively. The phytotoxicity of herbicide on soybean was depended on rate and type of herbicides, which the phytotoxicity was in order foresafen acifluorfen lactofen. Furthermore the increasing of soil moisture gave more phytotoxicity on soybean. However, the residual of these herbicides did not affect soybean germination. The herbicidetolerant soybean cultivars was in order SJ5 White Lion KPS 205 KPS 305. Tank - mixing diphenyl ether herbicides with bentazon, Citowett or soybean oil, acifluorfen + quizalofop, fomesafen + fluazifop and lactofen + clethodim caused slightly phytotoxicity on soybean. Diphenyl ethers provided good broadleaf weed control when applied at not later than 2 weeks after soybean emergence. Lactofen gave the greatest weed control, while fomesafen was similar to acifluorfen. The efficacy of weed control was influenced by rate of herbicide and soil moisture. The herbicide - tolerant weeds was in order Euphobia heterophylla Amaranthus spinosus Trianthema portulacastrum. The residual effect of diphenyl ether influenced the germination of Euphobia heterophylla at 7 days after application, but germinated weed did not show injury symptom. The combination of acifluorfen + bentazon (rate 100 + 200 g ai/ha), fomesafen + bentazon (100 + 400), lactofen + bentazon (25 + 800), acifluorfen + quizalofop (50 + 75), fomesafen + fluazifop (50 + 150) and lactofen + clethodim (12.5 + 150) increased weed control efficacy compared with single herbicide and gave high yield of soybean. The combination of diphenyl ethers and Citowett or soybean oil did not increase weed control efficacy.
