Asparagus growing in the agribusiness integrated project: Chai Nat case

A Project was a joint cooperation among private, bank and government. It aims to promote a new industrial crop especially asparagus at Tambol Ponangdum, Amphoe Sanpaya, Changwat Chai Nat, In this project asparagus with a hybrid variety of KR 1 and KR 2 was planted for 29.75 rai in August 1990 and harvested from January to July 1991. The finding was carried out to study the scio-economic aspects of the joined project. The project was successful in a certain level. The asparagus could be harvested after planting for five months. The total yields was 1,445.4 kgs/rai within seven months. The labour was used 2,424.8 hr/rai/year. The cash and non-cash production cost was 26,060 and 12,745 Baht/rai compared to cash and non-cash income 27,594 and 150 Baht/rai. The farmers were classified into group according to their performance as high, moderate and low. The three group could return the bank loan by 74.6, 56.2 and 32.4 % of total bank loan, respectively, For social aspects, The farmers were satisfied in this project.
