Leaves of Clinacanthus nutans Lindau., claimed in Thai traditional medicine to have antiviral activities was extracted by ethanol boiling under soxhlet. The extract was tested for inhibitory activity against the Yellow head baculovirus (YBV) by mixing the virus at the concentration 1:10000 to a known dilution of the extracts in Lobster haemolymph medium (LHM) for 2 hr at 25 deg C before injection. Virocidal effect was investigated by the observation of the mortality rate on the injected tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon). Extracts of Clinacanthus nutans leaves could inhibit YBV and the minimum concentration which inhibited YBV of the extract was 1 ng/ml. While the LD50 of the extract on post larvae 15 was 2468+-7.8 ppm. Moreover, the extract was also induced phagocytosis activity in tiger prawn.
