The analyse of red deer population was carried out in order to point out importance of global researches of native wild species populations and their conservation. On the base of literature data following parameters were analysed: distribution, density of population and the basic phenotypic characteristics. Global ecological conditions vary very wide from area to area and lead to increase differences among population of red deer. In relation to distribution and density of analysed populations there is necessary to undertake an adequate breeding plan in order to converse population of red deer in Yugoslavia. Following proposal could be of interest: adequate management of game in hunting grounds, increasing in number of red deer in their locality in according to capacity of specific area and re - introduction in "old" localities. Also, farming of red deer could take some part in conservation of their genetical potential.
