The effects of halothane anaesthetic application on lymphocyte culture in in vivo conditions
1997
Gluhovic, M. (Institute for Animal Husbandry, Belgrade - Zemun (Yugoslavia))
The investigation of halothane anaesthetic effects on pig lymphocytes in in vivo conditions was carried out on 11 Landrace pigs. The animals were halothane tested at about 2 months of age. Genotoxic effects of halothane were estimated on the basis of mitotic index, numerical and structural aberrations. Blood of the treated pigs was taken out 24 hours after the treatment. The method of Moorhead et al. was used. The decrease in mitotic activity in lymphocytes was found in a certain number of animals. The analyses show that the numerical and structural aberrations of chromosomes in in vivo conditions do not rise compared to the control value.
