Results of using lactic acid bacteria and enzymes in fodder ensiling

The paper presents effects of ensiling alfalfa and sown grass mixtures using bacterial inoculant Sillal in laboratory mini silos as well as haycrop ensiling of alfalfa, barley and wheat and rye muxtures in production conditions (silos). Using inoculants composed of lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum, Streptococcus feacium and Pedicoccus acidilactici) and enzymes (cellulase, hemicellulase, pentosanase and amylase) in amount of 10 g/t gave better pH regulation and reduced fermentation process, increased production of lactic and lower acetic acid as well as lower ammonia content due to reduced protein proteolysis. Adding the inoculant is justified for the fodder like alfalfa and grass mixtures that are hard to ensile and do not have enough easily fermented sugars
