Use of whey for the biodegradation of lignocelulose wastes by fungi
1997
Lewandowska, M. | Bednarski, W. (Olsztyn Univ. of Agriculture and Technology (Poland). Inst. of Food Biotechnology)
In the work, the attempts were undertaken to utilize lignocellulose wastes of agro-alimentary industry: the residues after cleaning of cereal grain (wheat) and seed coat of faba bean. The preliminary studies concerned the determination of effect of the additional carbon sources in cultivated media on biosynthesis of cellulolytic enzymes by molds of Trichoderma and Aspergillus species. The most favourable results were obtained after the application of lactose additive what paid the attention to the possibility of utilizing whey (its abundant source) as component of cultivation media. Biodegradation of dietary fiber in lignocellulose wastes with the addition of whey was found on the level of 25-35 per cent and yield of protein biosynthesis reached to 22 per cent.
