Staphylococcus (68 strains) and micrococci (45 strains) isolated from raw water-buffalo milk were identified according to the indices in the Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology (1986,1994). The results of this study indicate that on staphylococceal cultures most often are determined S. aureus subsp. aureus (14,7%), S. simulans (14,7%) and S. intermedius (11,8%). The distribution of the other staphylococci is as follows; S. carnosus, S. hyicus and S. warneri (10,3%), S. cohnii subsp. cohnii and S. capitis subsp. capitis (8,8%), S. sciuri (4,4%) S. lentis (2,9%) and S. saprophyticus (2,9%). The differentiation of the micrococceal cultures resulted in the identification of the following species: M. sedentarius (40%),M. kristinae (26,7%), M. varians (24,4%) and M. luteus (8,9%).
