Domestication of Estonian natural arctic bramble

The arctic bramble is the most profitable wild berry in Estonia. The number of arctic brambles in Estonia has been constantly falling and this shows the plant's tendency to die out gradually. For that reason established experiment in 1995, in the experimental garden of the Estonian Agricultural University. Under the name 'Kaansoo' the Estonian natural arctic bramble and Finnish cultivars 'Pima' and 'Mespi' is tested. In the present paper the data obtained are presented. The growth of Estonian arctic bramble in plantation is good. The arctic bramble starts to bear fruit in the second year of growth. The harvesting period begins at the start of July and the last berries ripen in September. Results of yield in 1996 showed that Estonian arctic bramble is good berry producer.
