Chemical composition of Hippophae rhamnoides fruits in Estonia
1998
Piir, R. | Kelt, K. (Estonian Agricultural University, Tartu (Estonia). Polli Horticultural Inst.)
First experiments for Hippophae rhamnoides cultivating at the Polli Horticulural Institute were made beginning from 1973 with Siberian cultivars. They have tasty fruits. 'Oranzhevaya' and 'Vitaminnaya' have the biggest vitamin C content and 'Velikan' is superior in sugar and oil content. But Siberian cultivars (originating from continental climate) did not adapt to Estonian maritime climate and the plants were destroyed. Introducing, in 1980, cultivars of the Botanical Gardens of the Moscow University made the Hippophae rhamnoides cultivating successful. The best cultivars are 'Avgustinka', 'Otradnaya', 'Botanicheskaya' and 'Trophimovskaya'
