1997

Researches on improvement of productivity and quality of roses conducted since 1994 to 1997 were aimed to improve rose productivities and qualities. The researches have been conducted through experiments in the fields, laboratories, green houses and survey. The results were as follow; 84 varieties has been collected and 14 varieties has been completely described and identified. Hybridization between Cherry Brandy x Cpn 13 and it's resiprocal hybrid produced 4 survival seedlings with different flower variations. Lines C.91012-5, C91023-1, C91001-1, C89002-7 and C89002-4 were promising from previous hybridization good for cut flower and garden while 10 introduced varieties should be further evaluated. Plant propagation through in vitro culture in media of B5 + 2 ppm 2,4D + 0,25 ppm kinetin and B5 + 2 ppm 2,4D + 0,25 ppm kinetin + 200 ppm hydrollisate casein resulted good callus formations. Plant propagation by stenting still showed poor development of sprout and roots so further improvement is needed. Physical and chemical properties improvement of soil by application of sugarcane baggase, oil palm fruit bunch coir and rice hulls and their mixture with stable manure did not affect yield significantly but improved physical fertility of the soil. Triakontanol 150 ppm increased flower production and flower quality of roses. Rice hull ashes + zeolit + used as medium in pot roses showed highest numbers of flowers. Propineb and klorotalonil were two effective fungicides for controlling black rot with spraying efficiency of 90, 60, 40, 20 and 0 percent at 5, 4, 3, 2, and one growth stage. The longer the covering the higher the lessions and diseases intensity of D. rosae, while Bou 1 isolate controlled 59,65 percent of mildew. Corn plants used as barrier tended to reduce aphid population in roses. For maintaining cut flower freshness, storing of the flower could be done at low temperature of 1-5 deg. C with application of sucrose solution 3 percent. The vase life of cut flower could be prolonged for 8 days by submerging in 3 percent sucrose solution + citric acid + TBZ 5 ppm
