[Improvement of fermentation processes in the rumen of cattle during the grazing season]
1998
Bliznikas, S. | Tarvydas, V. (Lithuanian Institute of Animal Science, Baisogala (Lithuania))
The study was carried out at the Lithuanian Institute of Animal Science to determine the effects of the biological preparation De-Odorase (Alltech Inc., USA) on the fermentation processes in the rumen of average yielding cows of the Lithuanian Black-and-White breed during the pre-grazing and grazing seasons. De-Odorase supplementation of the diets for grazing cows tended to inhibit the development of infusoria. However, the increased level of 2.6 - diaminopimelic acid indicated a more active growth that led to a lower ammonia nitrogen concentration in the rumen contents. De-Odorase supplementation had a positive effect on the carbohydrate fermentation and increased the total VFA content. The VFA ration remained unchanged.
