Until 1995 the number of turkeys raised in Lithuania was low. The turkeys were of local light-type breeds. In 1995, Big-6 and BUT-9 cross turkeys were imported from Great Britain and Poland. Exterior and carcass data indicated that the birds of both crosses were compact and had well-developed breast. The egg production by BUT-9 females was by 15.6 eggs higher than that of Big-6 females. Incubation data was also higher for BUT-9 cross turkeys. The survival rate of turkey poults was the same for both crosses.
