[Sapropel in the diet of growing pigs and chickens]

The given paper deals with the use of sapropel as a raw material for additives to the diet of pigs and chickens in order to provide them with the necessary amount of protein, vitamins and minerals. The origin and composition of sapropel are explained. The history of its use in the feed of farm animals and as a fertilizer is reviewed. Experiments made with Latvian White breed pigs using the mineral-premix Sapromin are described. Scientific investigations as well as the above-mentioned experiments show that sapropel can be successfully used in farm animals' feed.
