The reform in the Latvia University of Agriculture (LLU) after 1990 allowed to establish new study programmes, evaluate studies in their content and quality, strengthen international co-operation etc. Since 1993 the number of students has increased and reached 7000 in 1998 or 10% of all Latvian students. The demand for LLU graduates increases. A new institution of professors and associated professors has been established. During the last study year essential progress has been achieved in the development of communications technique, in co-operation with different companies new laboratories have been established, also certain modernisation has been accomplished in the development of the University Library etc. LLU is intensively working in the improvement of its study process and research activities, thogh very limited finacial resources endanger these processes.
