In the given research the most characteristic ways of loose housing of cows have been compared by using the data of milk production and profitability. A computer programme of economic programme of economic calculations has been developed for this purpose. Four solutions of loose housing of cows and two - of tied housing have been chosen for comparison. It has been stated in the investigations that the production cost of milk is the highest if loose housing of cow is used. If cows are kept tied the production cost decreases by 5-30% depending on the technological equipment used in the barn and the number of cows. Loose housing of cows can be profitable if average yields of milk are not less than 4000 kg per year per cow and not less than 70-100 cattle are housed in a barn. Economically the most effective ways of loose housing of cows are keeping cows in boxes and removing manure by delta-type conveyor as well as keeping cows on a sloped floor.
