Balaki, E.T. | Valdez, L.C. (Benguet State Univ., La Trinidad, Benguet (Philippines))
A field study was conducted at La Trinidad, Benguet [Philippines] to evaluate the efficacy of Ronstar 25 EC in controlling mixed weeds in cabbage fields from Nov 1998 to Feb 1999. Results revealed that Ronstar 25 EC applied just before transplanting cabbage seedlings effectively controlled G. parviflora, Eleusine indica, P. oleracea and A. spinosus with no injury to cabbage plants. When applied after transplanting however, Ronstar 25 EC totally damaged cabbage shoots. Recovery was observed after two weeks. Cabbage yield was not affected with Ronstar 25 EC and was comparable with the handweeded plots (farmers' practice). Unweeded plots yielded 50 percent lower. At prevailing cost of labor and Ronstar 25 EC, the use of the latter will save the farmer P6,533.33 per hectare per crop
