Cytogenetic relationship of Solanum melongena, S. aethiopicum and their F1 hybrid were evaluated. All revealed a chromosome number of 2n=24. Occurrences of meiotic aberrations like laggards, early and late disjunctions, multivalents and asynchronous, bridge and bridge plus fragments formations in the F1 were discussed. Irregular meiotic behavior corroborated with pollen fertility. A low percentage (9.74 percent) of pollen fertility was exhibited by the F1 hybrid. Considering that the parental species belong to different sections in the subgenus Leptostemomum, nearly normal chromosomal pairing in the F1 was obtained, suggesting close affinity between the parental genomes
