Hylaeus sinuatus selected the empty stalks of Phragmites, Agastache and the tubes from trace paper, but most often the stalks of Leonurus and Nepeta with a canal (hollow) diameter of 1-5 mm (mainly 2-3 mm) and with a canal length of 0.5-3 cm and 10-15 cm) were chosen. 62.5 percent of the nests in stalks of Leonurus were settled from behind.
