Taxol is very efficient drug for therapy of some types of cancer. The native sources of taxol are limited, because it occurs in bark of Pacific yew (Taxus brevifolia Nutt.) The isolation in large scale could cause total extirpation of Pacific yew population. The alternative sources of taxol are needles of European yew (Taxus baccata L.) which contain significant amount of 10-deacetylbaccatin III (DEBAC). DEBAC is suitable precursor of taxol semisynthesis therefore the content of DEBAC in Slovak yews has been monitored. The content of it has been determinated in twigs of wildgrowing yews and ornamental ones by HPLC
