Vegetative propagation of Ilex aquifolium
1995
Minoglou, D.E.
Stem cuttings of Ilex aquifolium were taken from plants growing in nature, were tried for rooting and then for root characteristics while the subsequent growth of new plants was measured. Cuttings of different genotypes with one or two nodes have been used, and trials with hormones and or wound have been made. Two experiments were performed in winter and spring time. Rooting in winter was generally better, however the number and length of roots were better in spring. Moreover, differences in rooting success, root characteristics and subsequent growth appeared between genotypes. Hormone treatment, not in very high concentrations, along with wounding, gave best results. Cuttings with two nodes performed better than cuttings with one node in both seasons
