Variation among Ethiopian faba bean land races for seed yield and agro-morphological characters
1997
Mulat, G. (Biodiversity Inst., Addis Ababa (Ethiopia))
Seed yield and agro-morphological characters of 200 faba bean (Vicia faba L.) accessions from nine Ethiopian administrative regions were characterized during the 1994 cropping season. Variations in seed yield, plant height, number of pods and flowers per plant, pod length and 1000-seed weight were large. Most agro-morphological characters except 1000-seed weight showed positive and significant correlation with seed yield. Of the 200 accessions tested, 18 produced 25 - 47 percent higher yield than the standard check. Therefore, the variability expressed by most of the characters clearly showed the potential of the land races for selection and improvement
