Water habitats in urban areas of the Bratislava region (Slovak Republic)

Water habitats belong to ecostabilising elements in urban and secondry developed ecosystems settled unevely by Amphibians. A study of amphibian species evaluated their status and the development of their population in urban ecosystems on the territory of the city of Bratislava. For a stock-taking survey, use was made of the method of field monitoring during the course of periodic expeditions (1991-1993). The author recorded qualitative-quantitative data, also taking note of the nature of aquatic habitats and found 15 species in the environs of Bratislava (91 monitored localities), and 11 species in the area of the Gabcikovo power station (8 localities). Data were processed on the occurence of amphibians, typology and classification of water habitats (using the following indices: teh index of originality, quality, ecilogical topic unit and the idex of ecological stability). Finally, an eggregative index of habitat significance was determined
