Experiments carried out in the Arboretum Borova Hora of the Technical University in Zvolen (Slovak Republic) are summarized. The influence of exogenous gibberellins (GA3) on bud dormancy of the eight taxons of the woody plants (Acer pseudoplatanus L., Tilia cordata Mill., Betula pendula Roth, Corylus avellana L., Populus tremula L., Quercus robur L., Salix caprea L., Caragana arborescens L.) in 1994 was investigated. The GA3 was applied on cuts made in the bark of two-year old branches and wound with cotton-wool and PVC foil. Results are ambiguous. In some taxons (Acer pseudoplatanus, Tilia cordata) the application was positive and an inexpressive reaction in two taxons (Quercus robur, Betula pendula) was observed. The buds of the four taxons (Corylus avellana, Salix caprea, Populus tremula, Caragana arborescens), occurring in the endogenous dormancy, remained without visible changes. Inexpressive influence of the exogenous gibberellin on the dormant catkins of Betula pendula, Corylus avellana, Salix caprea, Populus tremula was present. Application of the gibberellin positively influences the duration of the vitality of the leaves which remain longer on the branches
