During phytocoenological investigations in sessile oak forests on the Fruska Gora Mt (539 m a.s.l.), Serbia (Yugoslavia) in 1996 and 1997, we have discovered a new community of sessile oak and silver linden. It is situated on southern and northern slopes of this mountain, on upper parts of narrow ridges, at elevations 400-480 m a.s.l. and inclinations 5 and 15 deg C. It developed during the process of the progressive succession of the forest vegetation at these habitats, the first of all pure sessile oak forest vegetation of the type Festuca drymeiae-Quercetum petraeae M. Jank. 1960. Numerous and degree of coverage of the Festuca drymeia are considerably reduced within these stands. In tree, shrub and herb layer the highest degree of presence (V) have sessile oak (Quercus petraea agg.) and silver linden (Tilia tomentosa Moench), and this points out at good regeneration of the new community Tilio tomentosae-Quercetum petraeae.
