A study was conducted on the influence of growth phases on the evolution of Cellular Fatty Acids during desiccation at different Relative Humidity levels. Lactobacillic, cis vaccenic and palmitic acids represent the major fatty acids of Sinorhizobium meliloti RCR 2011, Bradyrhizobium elkanii USDA 120, and Bradyrhizobium japonicum 3.2 whatever the growth phases studied. An interchange of cis vaccenic with lactobacillic acid was observed during the course of growth. The degree of unsaturation were significantly higher during the midlog. phase. During the course of desiccation, (brady)rhizobia decreased their u/s ratio but these decreases were largely independent of the RH achieved.
