Bovine colostrum is a rich source of bioactive compounds including: immunoglobulin (Ig) that can be directed by hyperimmunisation against specific pathogens causing human disease, non-specific anti-microbials (e.g. lactoferrin), and growth factors such as insulin-like growth factors and transforming growth factors. Ig content (measured by HPLC) and activity (measured by ELISA and virus neutralisation) are sensitive markers of product efficacy and potentially detrimental effects of processing on bioactive components of colostrum. Standard dairy pasteurisation (72¦C for 15 sec) denatures 30-50/ of the Ig. INTACT colostrum powder (NorthField Laboratories) is produced using a patented combination of centrifugation, low temperature pasteurisation, ultrafiltration and spray drying. It concentrates the bioactive components, retains their integrity ( 95/ of Ig activity) and achieves a very low and specific pathogen-free microbial load (TPC 1,000 organisms per g). Randomised, double blind, placebo controlled clinical studies in athletes have demonstrated that oral administration of 60 g per day of INTACT improves recovery and running performance in comparison to whey protein concentrate (p
