Henno, M. | Olkonen, A:(Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Inst. of Animal Husbandry)
A study was conducted to determine the colostrum content in raw milk purchased by two dairies. The colostrum content was determined using a commercial radial immunodiffusion (RID) test kit - Coltest (Immuno Chemical Products Ltd.). A total of 409 samples of raw milk were analyzed for the presence of colostrum. Two hundred and eight samples (60.6 per cent) had an IgG content below 1.0 mg/ml (=.1 per cent) indicating that these samples were free of colostrum. Nineteen milk samples (4.7 per cent) contained IgG excess of 2.0 mg/ml (0.2 per cent)
