Abundance and sex ratio of pine weevils, Hylobius abietis and H. pinastri (coleoptera: curculionidae) in pine clear-cuttings of different ages

The present study on the number and sex ratio of H. abietis and H. pinastri in conifer clear-cut areas of different age showed that the number of H. abietis exceeds considerably the number of H. pinastri both in fresh and older clear-cuttings. However, in clear-cut areas of different age, there were no major differences regarding the gender structure of various species. In all clear-cut areas, female beetles were dominating from spring to mid-summer. During the second part of summer, male beetles were predominant in clear-cut areas
