Disease situation of broilers. Overview of the last 25 years
2000
Benyeda, J. | Palya, V.
This paper reviews the most important infectious diseases affecting broilers during the last 25 years and the strategies employed to control them and minimize their impact on the performance of broilers. Viral infections which are immunosuppressive have severely affected the economics of broiler production, often as a result of the chicks' increased susceotibility to secondary infections and sub-optimal response to vaccinations. The two major immunosuppressive viruses affecting broilers during the reviewed period have been infections bursal disease virus (IBDV) and chicken anaemia virus (CAV).
