1999
Vitjazkova, M. (State Priekuli Plant Breeding Station, Priekuli (Latvia))
Variety "Selga" is red-violet flowered pea (Pisum sativum ssp. arvense) bred at Priekuli Plant Breeding Station. It was selected from progeny of a cross between cultivars "Vitra" and "Topaz" (1983). In 1986 single plant selections were made from F3 populations. During 1987-1992 selected line was evaluated in the small plot nurseries and during 1993-1996 - in competitive trials for seed and greenmass yield and agronomic traits. During 1997-1998 "Selga" was evaluated in the State Variety Testing and was included in the Recommended list for growing in Latvia in 1995. "Selga" is medium late ripening cultivar, resistant to "Ascochyta pisi and pinodes" and viruses. In the competitive trial the average seed yield level was fixed 4.4 t haE-1 (max. 7.2 t haE-1). Average greenmass yield was fixed 34.5 t haE-1. "Selga" has high protein content in seed and greenmass and is recommended for use as animals feed.
