[Epizootic aspects of wild boar diseases in Latvia]
1999
Zinars, J. (Latvian Univ. of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Dept. of Infectious Diseases)
The main health problem of wild boars in Latvia is the presence of infectious diseases among the animals. The most dangerous for pig farming in the country is the classical Swine Fever (CSF). It is supposed that the outbreaks of CSF in 1996 could be connected with the presence of this disease in wild boars as its case in these animals was registered in 1992, and since that time their population has remarkably decreased. To eliminate the danger of spreading of infectious diseases among wild and domestic animals oral immunisation of wild boars is planned by distributing the marker vaccine in wild boars' feeding places. The given work presents the results of wild boar blood serum analyses for infectious diseases in order to establish the dynamics of their geographical distribution in Latvia.
