The reasons for the decrease of bee-keeping and honey production in Estonia in the last decade are defined. The importance of studying external features of bees for determining their races in crossing in order to increase the profitability of honey production is explained. In the period of 1997-99 in Estonia the external features of bees were determined in seven apiaries and twenty one swarms consisting of Italian, Carnoilan and crossbred bees. The number of investigated bees was 617. The measurement results of the external features of bees are presented in a table.
