Automatic milking units were applied in group of 100 dairy cows and the long term effect on the udder health status were analysed. During two years since applying automatic milking units the number of cows with somatic cell count SCC 200 000 cells/ml decreased by 50% till average prevalence of 30%. The incidence of rapid SCC increase gaps in mounthly milk records for individual cows were analyzed to estimate approximate level of new intramammary infections. The geometric mean value for incidence of subclinical mastitis and functional disorders remained high for 12 months. Results of the research prove that automatic milking units do not leave negative effect on udder health status in long term aspect.
