The kind and optimum rate of fertilizer application and number of plants per hill were determined in six-month-old and one-year-old asparagus plantations. The study, a part pf the Asparagus Development Project of MMSU [Mariano Marcos State Univ., Batac, Ilocos Norte (Philippines)], used UC 157 hybrid. The technology was tested in clay loam soil under Ilocos Norte conditions. Findings showed that granular fertilizer applied to the soil at a rate of 90-30-30 kg NPK/ha produced the best quality spears and highest net income per hectare. For best quality spears, two plants/hill was the ideal population density at planting distance of 150 cm between rows and 50 cm between hills. However, four plants/hill produced the highest net return
