Twenty cotton strains were evaluated for resistance to Heliothis spp.(HS) in a field experiment with three levels (intense, intermediate and low) of pest management. When compared with the susceptible cultivar (Stoneville 213), a higher number of eggs were found on 86 MRH-7, JBW 503, and TAMCOT CAB- CS. TAMCOT CAB-CS, 86 MRH-7 JBW lines, MISCOT lines. PD-0786 and UARK 2402 were found more susceptible to HS on the basis of number of larvae per 10 terminals. MISCOT and JBW lines, 86 MRH-7, PD-0786, UARK 2402 and TAMCOT CAB-CS had more squares damaged by HS. GATIR 84-664 had the lowest percentage of the squares damaged by HS but was not significantly different from Stoneville 213. Significantly more bolls damaged by the larvae were found in MISCOT 7913-S, MISCOT 7913-H and PD-0786 than in Stoneville 21.. Overall MISCOT, JBW lines, TAMCOT CAB-CS and PD-C786 had shown susceptibility HS when compared with Stoneville 213.
